Actress and media personality Tebogo Thobejane slams the 'romanticising' of Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala. He is accused of plotting her assassination. She questions the motives behind the sudden wave of online praise for the controversial businessman.
(The Post News)- South African actress and media personality Tebogo Thobejane has broken her silence. She witnessed a wave of online praise directed at her former partner, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
Matlala, a controversial businessman and accused cartel member who is tied to violent crimes for years, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and money laundering. He is also accused of plotting the assassination of Thobejane herself, following a 2023 ambush in which she was shot in the foot.
During Matlala’s recent parliamentary appearances, social media lit up with women openly admiring him, some even calling him “charming” and “stylish.” This reaction left Thobejane stunned, given that he is accused of plotting her murder. She expressed frustration on her Instagram stories that the nation is easily captured, describing it as a dangerous form of romanticising alleged criminals. She warned that this support ignores the pain of those hurt.
She noted that her intuition is loud, and something doesn’t add up. Saying that “When the whole nation suddenly loves someone they once feared, it usually means the narrative is being managed behind the scenes,” highlighting how quickly public narratives can be easily manipulated.”We forget the real crimes, the people who were hurt, and the lives that were lost. We let power rewrite the truth right in front of us,” she wrote. Her remarks highlight the danger of allowing charisma to overshadow accountability, especially when human lives are at stake.
