The bail application of renowned Lekompo musician, Lehlohonolo Chauke, also known as Shebe Maburna, has been deferred until Thursday in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court. Magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi adjourned the hearing to allow for further scrutiny of the accused by the state.
Shebe Maburna was taken into custody for allegedly firing shots at a vehicle, injuring a passenger, in Ladanna, Polokwane, in October. The victim remains hospitalized, and the musician faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and robbery.
Court’s Reasoning
The court decision means Shebe Maburna will remain behind bars until the next hearing. Magistrate Netshiozwi stated, “This matter is postponed to tomorrow, the 11th of December 2025, for further hearing, you will be in custody”.
The postponement has sparked concern among fans and the Limpopo entertainment sector, who are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the case. Shebe Maburna’s career has been put on hold, with several scheduled performances cancelled due to his detention.
The musician’s friend, Kwenisto Makgakga, has urged fans to remain calm and support Shebe Maburna peacefully. “My message to the fans is that we need to be calm. We need to work together with the law enforcement agencies, and allow the law to do their work,” Makgakga said.
Shebe Maburna is facing nine charges, including three counts of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The state is expected to oppose his bail application.
Statement By Limpopo Artists Movement
The Limpopo Artists Movement has expressed disappointment over the postponement, hoping for a swift resolution to allow Shebe Maburna to resume his career. “The province is planning significant events, and artists must be available and performing for the industry,” said Mphoza Mashabela, a spokesman for the movement.
The court proceedings have drawn significant attention, with fans and supporters filling the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court. Shebe Maburna’s music has been celebrated for its cultural resonance, but his legal troubles have overshadowed his contributions to the Lekompo genre.
The case highlights concerns about public safety and the responsibilities of public figures. The outcome of the bail application will determine whether Shebe Maburna is granted temporary release or remains in custody.
