Shebe Maburna, a renowned Limpopo musician, is facing serious charges, including attempted murder, assault, and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The 30-year-old artist, whose real name is Lehlohonolo Chauke, appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court, applying for bail.
The state’s case against Shebe Maburna includes video footage showing him in a shooting incident in Ladanna, Polokwane. Investigating officer Phaladi Makola confirmed the existence of this footage during re-examination by the prosecution.
Video Footage
Makola stated that the video footage is among the evidential material the state intends to use against Shebe Maburna in counts 1, 2, and 3. The prosecution is opposing bail, citing the severity of the charges and the risk of Shebe Maburna interfering with witnesses.
Shebe Maburna’s lawyer has denied any wrongdoing, arguing that his client is a law-abiding citizen who has always cooperated with authorities. However, the state has raised concerns about Shebe Maburna’s history of criminal activity, including two pending attempted murder cases.
The musician’s arrest has disrupted his career, with over 40 booked gigs cancelled. The Limpopo Artists Movement has expressed disappointment over the postponement, hoping for a swift resolution to allow Shebe Maburna to resume his career.
History of Violence
The court has been told that Shebe Maburna has a history of violence, including an incident in 2015 where he allegedly falsified a withdrawal statement. The state is pushing for a harsh sentence, citing the seriousness of the charges.
Shebe Maburna’s defence team is working to establish a case for bail, but the prosecution is determined to prove that he was involved in the alleged crimes.
