Shebe Maburna, a renowned Limpopo musician, bail hearing has been postponed to Monday next week by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.
The hearing was postponed to allow the defence lawyers to present their closing arguments. Shebe Maburna’s lawyer, Advocate Isaac Mokgopo, argued that his client will not evade trial should he be released on bail.
Mokgopo emphasized that there’s no evidence to suggest Shebe Maburna’s release will undermine the criminal justice system. He also stated that the state failed to provide proof that Shebe Maburna tried to evade trial when released on bail for other alleged matters.
Online Social Media evidence
The investigating officer, Phaladi Makola, testified that Shebe Maburna is known to boast online about committing over 60 offences in a month. Makola also presented video evidence allegedly showing Shebe Maburna firing a shot at a fan in Ladanna, Polokwane.

State Oppose Bail
The state is opposing bail, citing the severity of the charges and the risk of Shebe Maburna interfering with witnesses. The prosecution has raised concerns about Shebe Maburna’s history of criminal activity, including two pending attempted murder cases.
Shebe Maburna’s defence team argues that he is a law-abiding citizen who has always cooperated with authorities. They also pointed out that competent police officers can track down fugitives in other countries.
Magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi expressed concern about the defence lawyers’ late arrival in court, suggesting they agree on a time to avoid delays.
The postponement has sparked disappointment among fans and the Limpopo entertainment sector, who are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the case. Shebe Maburna’s career has been put on hold, with over 40 booked gigs cancelled.
Shebe Maburna is facing nine charges, including three counts of attempted murder, robbery, and illegal possession of firearms. The state is pushing for a harsh sentence, citing the seriousness of the charges.
The court proceedings have drawn significant attention, with fans and supporters filling the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court. Shebe Maburna’s music has been celebrated for its cultural resonance, but his legal troubles have overshadowed his contributions to the Lekompo genre.
