Police in Johannesburg have identified a woman as a person of interest in the murder of Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, who was shot dead in the city’s central business district on Tuesday. The woman is believed to be a former tenant at the Zambesi building, where the shooting occurred.
Woman Identified As Person Of Interest
MMC for Public Safety Mgcini Tshwaku stated that the woman is cited as a key figure in the case and was also mentioned in a protection order obtained by DJ Warras prior to his death. Tshwaku added that a committee had been threatening DJ Warras, saying he would face consequences for trying to remove them from the building.
The police have launched a manhunt for suspects involved in the killing, with five people taken in for questioning so far. Tshwaku assured that investigators are working around the clock to solve the case.
DJ Warras, a well-known radio and television personality, was shot outside the Carlton Centre on Commissioner and Von Wielligh Streets in Johannesburg. He was found lying on the pavement with four gunshot wounds to the chest and one to the chin.
Unknown Motives To His Death
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but police suspect it may be linked to disputes over the hijacked building where DJ Warras was managing security. The building’s occupants had allegedly threatened DJ Warras, leading him to obtain protection orders.
Security analyst Chad Thomas believes the killing bears the hallmarks of a targeted hit, with police likely relying on cellphone records, financial trails, and electronic transfers to uncover those responsible.
The investigation is being handled by a specialized provincial unit dealing with serious and violent crimes, which is reportedly well-resourced and capable.
DJ Warras’ family has appealed for privacy, with his sister Nicole Stock urging the public not to share graphic images or videos from the scene.
