ANC Demand Accountability
The ANC’s Victor Molosi region has released a statement expressing their serious concern over the incident, emphasizing that public representatives must uphold the law and act responsibly at all times.
“The ANC views any conduct involving the discharge of a firearm in a public or private setting with the utmost seriousness, particularly when it involves public representatives who are expected to uphold the law and act responsibly at all time,” the statement read.
The party is urging law enforcement to independently verify the video’s authenticity and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
ANC Western Cape provincial spokesperson Sifiso Mtsweni told broadcaster Newzroom Afrika that Kolwapi’s behavior was unacceptable and that she should face consequences for her actions.
“Those are criminal acts, she behaves like a hooligan, a charlatan in public. Discharging a firearm in public is a criminal offence,” Mtsweni said.
The ANC has also distanced themselves from Kolwapi, stating that she is not an ANC member, councillor, or deputy mayor.
A case has been opened at the Kwa-Nokuthula police station, and police are investigating a charge of pointing and firing a firearm.
No arrests have been made so far, but the police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
The incident has drawn comparisons to EFF leader Julius Malema’s recent firearm case, in which he was found guilty of firing a weapon in public and now faces possible imprisonment.
Kolwapi’s actions have sparked outrage and concern among community members, who are calling for accountability and responsible behavior from public officials.
The investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and whether Kolwapi will face charges
