Search and rescue teams continue to look for a missing person after a car was swept off a flooded bridge in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal.
The search for a missing person is underway after a car was swept off a flooded bridge at Doonside near Amanzimtoti on the Durban South Coast. The bodies of two other occupants were recovered on Monday, bringing the total number of fatalities to four, including two people who died in the vicinity of Port Shepstone.
Rescue Effort
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson confirmed that rescue teams are back at the site, with Police and Metro Police Search and Rescue divers in the water.
The incident occurred on Sunday night when the vehicle was washed away while crossing a low-level bridge in Longacres Drive, Amanzimtoti.
Two of the five occupants managed to escape, but three men remain missing.
The search operation is being led by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Search and Rescue K9 unit, along with other emergency and rescue teams.

The area has experienced severe weather conditions, with ongoing assessments to ensure responder safety amid persistent flooding risks.

The Ugu District Municipality has issued a statement warning motorists to avoid travelling to the Lower South Coast if possible.
The municipality also urged residents to exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and delay road trips where possible.
