Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, the Nobel Peace Prize winner, revealed on Monday that she hasn’t spoken to US President Donald Trump since October 10, 2025, the day she received the prestigious award.
Machado, widely regarded as deposed President Nicolas Maduro’s most credible opponent, expressed her gratitude for Trump’s actions, stating that January 3 will be remembered as the day justice triumphed over tyranny.

The Venezuelan leader accepted the Nobel Peace Prize for her tireless efforts to promote democratic rights and transition her country from dictatorship to democracy. She dedicated the award to Trump, saying she believed he deserved it.
Machado left Venezuela last month to receive the award in Norway and hasn’t returned, citing safety concerns. She plans to return home as soon as possible.
The US launched a military operation in Venezuela on Saturday, capturing Maduro and sparking international debate. Machado welcomed the move, calling it a huge step for humanity, freedom, and human dignity.
Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodriguez was sworn in as interim president, leaving uncertainty about the country’s future leadership. Trump dismissed the idea of working with Machado, stating she lacks support and respect within the country.
