(The Post News)- West Ham forward Michail Antonio is recovering after undergoing surgery for a fractured leg sustained in a car crash on Saturday in Epping, Essex. The 34-year-old was driving a Ferrari when the collision occurred, leaving him trapped in the vehicle. Firefighters worked for over 40 minutes to free him before he was handed over to paramedics and transported to the hospital.
West Ham confirmed Antonio’s stable condition, stating he is “conscious and communicating” and will remain under medical supervision in the coming days. In a statement, the club thanked emergency responders and medical staff for their care and acknowledged the widespread support from the football community.
The crash took place on Coppice Row and involved Antonio’s Ferrari sports car. Essex Police have launched an investigation, appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage to help determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Antonio, a pivotal player for West Ham since joining in 2015, has made 15 appearances this season across all competitions. The Jamaican international, who debuted for the national team in 2021, has scored five goals in 21 matches for his country.
The Jamaica Football Federation also extended its support, with head coach Steve McClaren wishing Antonio a speedy recovery.
