(The Post News)- Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk is in “complete shock” after testing positive for a banned substance, with the club confirming an “adverse finding” from a routine urine test. The Football Association (FA) has provisionally suspended the 23-year-old, although Mudryk denies knowingly using any prohibited substances.
The player took to Instagram, expressing disbelief at the result: “I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and I am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened.” He remains hopeful of returning to the pitch soon as Chelsea pledges to help investigate the cause of the failed test.
Under FA regulations, players can face provisional suspension following a positive drug test. FIFA guidelines suggest that those found guilty of intentionally taking banned substances could face bans of up to four years. However, the FA has declined to comment on when the test took place or the specifics of Mudryk’s suspension.
Mudryk has been absent from Chelsea’s lineup for their last five matches, including a 1 December win over Aston Villa. While head coach Enzo Maresca initially attributed his absence to illness, it now seems the situation may be related to the failed drug test.
Since joining Chelsea in January 2023 for a deal worth up to £89 million from Shakhtar Donetsk, Mudryk has scored 10 goals in 73 appearances. The Professional Footballers’ Association is expected to offer support to the winger as the investigation continues.
