With the competition starting in mid-February, Love’s absence could stretch to round eight or nine of the 16-round regular season. However, a quicker recovery might see him return by round five or six. Love, who made an unforgettable test debut in October by scoring two tries against Japan, was tipped to play a key role for the Hurricanes. Many believed he would lead as their first five, while others saw him starting at fullback, showcasing his versatility.
His absence leaves a gap in the Hurricanes’ lineup as they look to start the season strong. Love’s contributions to the All Blacks in 2024 included his sole test cap and a performance for the All Blacks XV in their win over Munster in November. Remaining optimistic, Love said, “I look forward to being back to full fitness next year to represent the people of the Hurricanes region and going to battle with my brothers.” The Hurricanes will need to adjust their plans as they await the return of one of their most promising talents. Fans will be eager to see how the team performs without him in the opening rounds.
