(The Post News)- Mpumalanga police arrested another suspect in connection with the tavern shooting in Pienaar.
Six people were shot and killed in the early hours of Saturday morning. Six other people were rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately two of the victims succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
After his arrest, Patrick Bongani Nkosi briefly appeared at the Kabokwehi Magistrates on Monday. Nkosi, was named the first suspect.
Jabu Ndubane, Mpumalanga Provincial Police spokesperson, further explains that during his arrest, police had confiscated pistols with no ammunition. The suspect is said to appear in court soon.
Delighted with their breakthrough, Major General Zeph Mkhanazi praised the investigating team with their commitment.
However, there was no trace of a gun after the shooting. Mkhanazi further explains the guns of the deceased is missing as well.
Mpumalanga community, security and liaisons MEC Jackie Macie said the tavern is closed for investigation. They have decided to close the tavern pending confirmation of their licenses, the time of the occurrence, and the closing time.
Macie says they are speaking to the Mpumalanga economic regulator, which issues licenses, and also for the police to investigate the shooting.
