After winning the toss and electing to bat, South Africa struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Parunika Sisodia provided an early breakthrough, dismissing opener Simone Lourens for a duck. Shabnam then removed the dangerous Jemma Botha, leaving South Africa at 20 for two by the fourth over.
Aayushi Sharma compounded South Africa’s woes by clean bowling Diara Ramlakan, reducing them to 29 for three by the end of the powerplay. The junior Proteas found themselves in a precarious position at the halfway mark, managing only 33 for three.
Captain Kayla Reyneke attempted to relieve some pressure with an aggressive shot but perished in the process, caught at long-off by Trisha Gongadi, who went on to be named Player of the Match and Player of the Series. South Africa’s hopes rested on Fay Cowling and Mieke van Voorst, who put together a brief partnership. However, Gongadi struck again, breaking their stand and triggering a collapse. South Africa was eventually bowled out for 82.
India made their intentions clear from the outset, racing to 18 runs without loss in the first two overs. Their dominance continued as they surged to 36 without loss after four overs. South Africa managed a breakthrough when captain Kayla Reyneke dismissed Kamalini for 19, but by then, India was already at 44 for one at the end of the power-play. With Gongadi leading the charge at 38*, India continued to pile on the runs and comfortably sealed the match in 11.2 overs, ensuring their second consecutive U19 Women’s T20 World Cup title.
