Manchester United defender, Lisandro Martinez suffered a cruciate ligament against Crystal Palace match.
(The Post News)- Manchester United announced on Thursday via its social media platforms that defender Lisandro Martinez has suffered a cruciate ligament injury, which is likely to rule him out for the rest of the season.
During Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, the 27-year-old Argentine center-back’s left knee gave out, and he was taken off on a stretcher.
The club stated in a statement that “Manchester United confirms that Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace. An assessment of the injury will determine the appropriate course of treatment and the timescale for his rehabilitation.”
“We at Manchester United will be there for Lisandro Martinez every step of the way, and we wish him the best of luck in his recuperation,” the statement added.
Ruben Amorim, Manchester United’s coach, expressed concerns after the Palace game that the injury looked serious. “Licha is really important to us, not just as a football player but also for the character he has, especially during this difficult time,” he said.
Amorim’s team, who play Leicester in the FA Cup on Friday, are currently 13th in the Premier League. The outcome has raised new questions about the fitness of defender Luke Shaw, who hasn’t started a game for the team in nearly a year.
United signed left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce during the January transfer window. Martinez’s knee injury occurred almost exactly a year after he suffered a similar injury against West Ham. After his return on March 30, he experienced a calf issue.
This season, the Argentine has made 32 appearances for United, scoring goals against Fulham and Liverpool.
