(The Post News)- Pirates coach, Riveiro discusses the impact of Sesane’s injury on the team’s performance against Sekhukhune United in the league tie. Sesane got an injury setback and a hard-fought 2-0 victory over a spirited Babina Noko side in the Betway Premiership at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Additionally, Sesane had to be taken off the field by Jose Riveiro just 18 minutes into the game against Sekhukhune and was replaced by Thapelo Xoki. Afterwards, Sesane was seen walking with crutches.
Sesane has been a key player for the Pirates this season while being consistent in performances. He made 29 appearances in all competitions and has registered two assists. Sesane’s presence on the pitch has helped the Soweto giants to be solid at the back, keeping 14 clean sheets. After the injury, Riveiro has admitted that the team has felt the absence of Sesane.
The Pirates are currently trailing Sundowns by six points in the league standings. With key defensive figures like Sesane, they would have a significant blow to their hopes of closing the gap and keeping their title ambitions alive.
The Pirates’ momentum under Riveiro faces a stiff test against reigning champions without a key defender, adding extra pressure suddenly. However, should Sesane be unavailable, the Pirates must rely on their remaining defensive options, which include Thapelo Xoki.
The Pirates must adapt quickly to Sesane’s potential absence as the stakes are higher than ever. The team must ensure the defensive unit remains solid against Sundowns’ relentless attack. The team needs to rally around their available players, reinforcing their back line and maintaining composure under pressure. It is up to Riveiro to craft a tactical approach that will maximize the strength of the squad and neutralize Sundowns’ offensive threats.
