Pakistan secured a six-wicket win in the high-scoring match on Wednesday, but tensions ran high during South Africa’s innings, leading to separate incidents involving the Pakistani players. Shaheen Afridi was fined 25% of his match fee for deliberately obstructing South African batter Matthew Breetzke as he ran for a single. The situation escalated when the two players squared up, forcing the umpire to intervene.
Moments later, a mix-up resulted in Temba Bavuma’s run-out. Saud Shakeel and Kamran Ghulam celebrated in close proximity to the departing batter, causing Bavuma to briefly pause his walk back to the pavilion. Shakeel and Ghulam were each penalised 10% of their match fees for using language, actions, or gestures that were disparaging or could have provoked a hostile reaction from a batter after being dismissed.
All three players admitted to their offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee David Boon, avoiding formal hearings.
