(The Post News)– Russian President Vladimir Putin has responded to French President Emmanuel Macron’s speech, in which he referred to Russia as a threat to Europe.
Addressing the French nation on Wednesday, Macron accused Russia of posing a threat to France and Europe, stating that he has decided “to open strategic debate on the protection of our allies on the European continent by our (nuclear) deterrent.” He also made comparisons of Putin’s rule with Napoleon Bonaparte’s failed attempt to conquer Russia in 1812.
According to Macron, the war in Ukraine, which has killed and injured nearly one million people, is continuing at the same rate. Furthermore, he stated that their ally, the United States, has shifted its stance on this battle, now supporting Ukraine’s lessons, leaving uncertainty about what will happen next. Macron also said that his country needs to be ready in case the United States is no longer by their side.
In relation to Macron’s statement, United States of America President Donald Trump had already demanded a deal to end the war between Russia and Ukraine while in discussions with Moscow to renew their ties.
In response to Macron’s speech, Putin said that some people still cannot sit still, adding that “there are still people who want to go back to the times of Napoleon, forgetting how it ended.” Putin was speaking at a meeting with mothers and widows of late soldiers that lost their lives in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Reports are stating that Russia has ruled out European proposals to send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine, citing that the French president threatened them by suggesting that they are a serious threat to Europe.
