(The Post News)- The value of the Springbok jersey has skyrocketed from R78 million in 2019 to a staggering R160 million, reinforcing the Boks’ dominance as South Africa’s top sports brand. According to Brand Finance, the Springboks are now valued at R2.2 billion, making them the strongest South African sports team across all sporting codes.
With a Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 91.9 out of 100, the Springboks lead by a significant margin over teams like Orlando Pirates (83.2), Kaizer Chiefs (82.6), and the Proteas (79.9).
Sponsorship revenue has now surpassed TV rights income for the first time, with SA Rugby’s sponsorship deals nearly doubling from R420 million to R800 million in the past year. This financial surge highlights the growing commercial appeal of the reigning Rugby World Cup champions.
However, the Springboks still have ground to cover in global rugby brand rankings. The All Blacks lead the way, with England, France, and Ireland also ahead of South Africa in a 2023 survey.
On a global scale, the most valuable sports franchises continue to be dominated by American teams. They are followed by the Golden State Warriors ($8.8 billion), Los Angeles Rams ($7.6 billion), New York Yankees ($7.55 billion), and New York Knicks ($7.55 billion).
