(The Post News)- In the Copa del Rey semifinals between Real Madrid and Real Sociedad, Mikel Oyarzabal, who scored two goals in yesterday’s 4-4 tie, spoke with the media. He acknowledged that he thought Kylian Mbappe had been offside prior to Real Madrid’s equalizer.
The Donostia-San Sebastian striker noted that he and his teammates objected to referee Javier Alberola Rojas’s failure to flag Kylian Mbappe’s positional offside prior to the corner that resulted in Real Madrid’s third goal.
“Mbappe interfered with the center-back, and I saw him offside. I believe that influenced Igor Zubeldia’s decision, but the corner came later, and things stood as they were,” he explained.
Mikel also praised Real Madrid’s strength, saying, “Take a look at their team. It makes no difference who starts, who enters, or who plays. There’s a reason they’re where they are. We must leave feeling proud of our accomplishments and with our heads held high.”
He added that the fact they were confident they could win the semi-final match at the Santiago Bernabeu is a testament to their recent success. “It’s time to focus on La Liga and return to Europe, which is our goal,” he said.
Mikel concluded by saying that many people thought they could change the outcome, “We did, which demonstrates the values and beliefs of the team. It’s unfortunate that certain little elements didn’t work out.”
