Nineteen-year-old Lhuan-dre Pretorius is proving he’s far more than a white-ball wonder, notching up his third first-class century in just five matches during the rain-affected Four-Day Series final at the Wanderers.
His patient 114 off 209 balls, soaked in grit and composure, stood out in the Titans’ second innings. Having already top-scored with an unbeaten 30 in their paltry first-innings total of 123, Pretorius showed another dimension to his game—one less about flair and more about survival.
Backed by a steady 79 from Rivaldo Moonsamy, the pair stitched together a crucial 140-run partnership, stalling the Lions’ push for victory. Spinner Bjorn Fortuin did claim five wickets, including the scalps of both Pretorius and Moonsamy, but time ran out before the Lions could chase the 81-run target.
The match ended in a draw, and with it, the trophy and R1.5 million prize were shared. For the Lions, it marks a double for the season following their T20 Challenge triumph.
Pretorius, meanwhile, ended his campaign with 436 runs at an average of 72.66—quietly announcing himself as a rising star across all formats.
