(The Post News)- Cecilia Molokwane’s time at the top may be running out. The long-serving Netball South Africa (NSA) president has officially been suspended by World Netball, raising serious questions about her future in the sport.
NSA confirmed the suspension on Monday, 21 April, stating it was in talks with the global body and would not comment further until due process is complete.
Molokwane, who has led NSA since 2017 and was re-elected in 2021, has faced mounting scrutiny over the years. A former player and coach, she was celebrated for securing the 2023 Netball World Cup in Cape Town and guiding the Proteas to a strong finish in 2019. However, her second term has been marred by controversy.
A 2023 documentary featured former NSA officials accusing her of racism, mismanagement, and selection interference. They painted a picture of a leader who rewards loyalty and punishes dissent. Molokwane brushed off the criticism, suggesting the attention proves she’s making waves.
In 2024, allegations resurfaced—this time involving claims that she dismantled member associations that threatened her possible re-election. Again, she denied everything, saying decisions couldn’t be made without evidence.
