Real Betis Sends Real Valladolid to Straight Relegation

Real Betis’ 5-1 victory against Real Valladolid strengthened their Champions League aspirations and sealed the visitors’ relegation. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid had nothing left to play for in the season, with leaders Barcelona leading by 10 points with five games remaining.

Giuliano Simeone set up Alexander Sorloth, who headed the ball into the net at the back post to open the scoring in the third minute. Although Atletico created more chances, Sorloth and others squandered opportunities.

Rayo custodian Augusto Batalla made crucial saves, but Isi Palazon’s shot into the far corner gave Rayo hope. Conor Gallagher scored before halftime, heading past Batalla after Rodrigo de Paul’s cross.

Real Betis, with playmaker Isco on the scoresheet, increased their chances of finishing in the top five. They climbed to fifth place, two points ahead of Villarreal.

Leganes secured a late 1-1 draw against Girona, while Osasuna defeated Sevilla 1-0, dropping Leganes to 19th place and four points from safety.
