(The Post News)– In a gripping Telkom Netball League (TNL) clash, the North West Flames defied expectations to edge the Jaguars 60-57, claiming victory in all four quarters. Backed by a passionate home crowd, the Flames showed composure under pressure, building a 15-10 lead early and never letting it slip.
Coach Elsunet du Plessis credited the home supporters for giving her side a much-needed lift, saying their energy helped boost the players’ confidence. She added that she reminded her team they hadn’t come this far to let it all go to waste, urging them to stay united and fight until the final whistle.
Jaguars coach Roxanne Matthyse praised her debutants for sticking to the plan but admitted it was a tough outing. She reflected that a slow start forced them to play catch-up, noting it’s better to learn these lessons early in the leg rather than later. Matthyse stressed the importance of maintaining the high standards the Jaguars are known for.
Elsewhere, it was a day of double celebration for the North West as Division B side Tshukudu cruised past Limpopo Lilies 52-37, lifted by their vibrant supporters. The Kingdom Stars also bounced back from yesterday’s defeat, dismantling the Northern Cape Diamonds 57-23 with sharp attacks and disciplined defence.
Meanwhile, the Fireballs continued to dominate, clinching two impressive wins — a 61-40 triumph over the Zambezi Eagles and a commanding 68-35 victory against the SPAR Baby Proteas.
