(The Post News)– Proteas Women’s head coach Mandla Mashimbyi is urging calm and focus as his side prepares for a must-win clash against India in the ongoing ODI Tri-Series in Colombo.
“We just didn’t play the important moments well in both games,” Mashimbyi reflected. “But that’s part of learning, and I think you learn more from losing than from winning.”
Only consecutive victories in their final round-robin games will give the Proteas a shot at reaching the final. Mashimbyi believes the experience under pressure is invaluable, and he’s backing his players to respond.
“I’d rather it happen now than in the World Cup. We’ll go back to the drawing board and make sure we leave no stone unturned.”
He emphasised the small margins that change games, such as field placements and missed opportunities to extend partnerships. “We didn’t prolong the good periods where we were dictating the match.”
The team is also keeping a close watch on the fitness of Suné Luus and Karabo Meso, both of whom left the field in the last game due to injury and illness. Both are recovering well and could feature in the next fixture.
With a focus on tightening execution and building on positives, South Africa will be looking to bounce back against table-toppers India.
