(The Post News)- A 48-year-old female police office stationed at SAPS Kabega Park in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, has been arrested on charges of fraud and money laundering. The arrest was carried out on Wednesday morning by the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) Eastern Cape Murder-for-Money Task Team.
According to SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Nobantu Gantana, the officer’s arrest is linked to a case registered at SAPS Mount Road. “The member faces charges of fraud and money laundering linked to a case registered at SAPS Mount Road,” Gantana confirmed. “The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details can be disclosed at this stage.”
The officer is expected to appear at the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, May 8. Brigadier Gantana emphasized SAPS’s commitment to accountability, stating, “SAPS reaffirms its commitment to accountability and the rule of law, ensuring that all members implicated in criminal activities face due process.”
This arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by SAPS to address corruption within its ranks and maintain public trust in law enforcement agencies.
