Kaizer Chiefs triumph over Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final, ending a 10-year cup drought under coach Nasredine Nabi.
(The Post News)- Kaizer Chiefs quenched their cup drought with a Derby win. Kaizer Chiefs clinched the Soweto Derby Nedbank Cup after approximately ten years of cup drought. Nasredine Nabi brought glory to Amakhosi, shaming Jose Riveiro, referred to as the “cup specialist”.
The much-anticipated match between the Glamour Boys and the Buccaneers took place at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The two teams went into half-time at 1-1, with Gaston Sirino scoring with a penalty at 10 minutes and Evidence Makgopa scoring at 17 minutes, assisted by Deon Hotto.
After the break, Amakhosi dominated the play and managed to score a second, winning goal. Yusuf Maart, assisted by Ashley Du Preez, scored the winning goal at 80 minutes, sending the two Soweto Giants apart.
Nabi clinched a cup in his first season at Chiefs after ten years of cup drought. This marks a reversal of fate from when he lost 2-1 during the Betway Premiership League derby during the week; come the weekend, he made them suffer the same fate in the Nedbank Cup final, 2-1.
