In the most recent episode of “Podcast and Chill,” co-host MacGyver Mukwevho, popularly known as “MacG,” offered a public apology to well-known entertainment personality Minni Dlamini after making distasteful comments regarding her most recent breakup.
The dispute between the two sparked when the podcast co-host mentioned Minnie’s split from the esteemed plastic surgeon based in Johannesburg, Dr Brian Monaisa. During the course of the podcast, MacG criticized Minnie’s dating history, suggesting that it was because of the unpleasant odour of her genitals that she could not sustain a relationship.
MacG’s comments resulted in severe condemnation from “Women for Change” as they released a statement, via Instagram, pointing out that the comments reinforce the brazen misogyny that women face in South Africa. The organization went further to say that MacG’s podcast can no longer be considered just being ‘controversial’ but instead ‘dangerous’ as it derides women’s ‘dignity, value, and safety’.
In addition to the public backlash, Deputy Minister Mmapaseka Steve Letsike called MacG’s comments cyber gender-based violence, and demanded that he be summoned to Parliament as a result.
MacG responded to the uproar in a recent episode, released on the 12th of May on YouTube, saying that he wanted to “squash things” by inviting Minnie Dlamini to the podcast to apologize. He took his response further by apologizing to the women of South Africa, claiming that it was never his intention to offend anyone with his comments.
