Seven pupils have been arrested and charged with common assault for assaulting another pupil on a video that went viral on social media.
(The Post News)– Following an upsetting video, which made the rounds on social media recently, a group of seven pupils appeared in court for assault after violently attacking a fellow pupil. In the video, the group—aged between 13 and 14—was seen assaulting a fellow pupil.
The mother of the victim expressed her utter shock and disappointment as she explained that she did not expect some of the accused to act in the manner they did towards her child. She further explained that she considered two of the seven her daughter’s friends, as she would cook for them during their sleepovers, and they used to go to church together.
When they arrived at her home on the day of the assault, the mother of the victim said that she thought they had come to pay her child a visit, not knowing that they would assault her. Moreover, she revealed that her child said that if the accused were not arrested, she would take her own life.
Four of the alleged perpetrators reportedly attend Bedfordview High School with the victim, while others are from Queens High School, Kensington High School, and Phoenix College.
The Gauteng Department of Education has expressed that they have been suspended from their respective schools. Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona revealed some of the concerns the parents shared with him upon interacting with them on the case.
He noted that some of the parents questioned if their children would have to change schools or if they would be expelled. Mabona added that some parents were worried about the threats made against their children.
