(The Post News) In the aftermath of the tragic shooting outside a club last year, where South African Hip Hop artist AKA and his friend Tebello “Tipz” Motsoane lost their lives, justice seemed elusive. Despite the incident being captured on camera, no suspects were held accountable. However, 2024 has brought progress in the case.
Five suspects are now in custody and facing trial after attempting to flee justice in Swaziland earlier this year. Among them is Mziwethemba Gwabeni, alleged to have received a payment of R800,000 believed to be linked to the execution of the rapper. It’s speculated that the sum was divided among the suspects, with each receiving R133,000.
In court today, the 27 March, 2024, the State revealed that the payment originated from Sydney Mfunda Gcaba, identified as the potential mastermind behind the murder. Gcaba, known as one of the infamous Gcaba brothers who own taxis in KwaZulu Natal, is the sole proprietor of Brightcircle PTY LTD, the company allegedly used to facilitate the payment to Gwabeni.
The money, disguised as consulting fees, was transferred to Gwabeni on February 11, 2023. Evidence suggests that a call placed to Gcaba prior to the transaction indicates it was intended as payment for the crime.
As the trial unfolds, anticipation mounts for further revelations. Allegations have surfaced that Gcaba may be involved in other illicit activities, hinting at a larger conspiracy at play. The pursuit of justice for AKA and Tipz promises to uncover more shocking truths as the legal proceedings continue.
