(The Post News)– The South African Police Service (SAPS) says they are getting closer to solving the murder of Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Deputy Chief Whip Khethamabala Sithole.
Sithole was gunned down by unknown attackers on Saturday evening in Katlehong, Gauteng. Alco Ngobese, a provincial secretary, was also injured during this attack, and he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said General Masemola is confident that the team investigating Sithole’s murder is getting closer to a breakthrough.
Masemola noted that they know their suspect, and it is only a “matter of time before” an arrest is made. According to Masemola, their seasoned detectives and crime intelligence officers are aggressively looking for the suspect on the ground. Moreover, Masemola encouraged the suspect to go to the nearest police station and hand himself over.
The motive behind Sithole’s murder is still unclear at this time; however, the IFP has referred to it as an “assassination”, suggesting it may have been politically motivated.
Mkhuleko Hlengwa, the national spokesperson for the IFP, said law enforcement would “spare no effort to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice”. Hlengwa stated that they had lost a trusted patriot and a hard-working leader of the IFP, adding that Jobe (Sithole) became part of the IFP in his youth and served in numerous party structures, like being the IFP Gauteng chairperson.
Hlengwa described Sithole as “a dedicated and humble servant leader who worked tirelessly for the people and the country.
