(The Post News)- R. Kelly has requested to be released from prison, citing safety concerns after allegedly being targeted for assassination by prison officials. The singer was sentenced to 30 years in prison in June 2022 for federal charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and exploitation of vulnerable young people.
R. Kelly’s legal team filed an expedited petition in federal court on June 10, appealing for temporary furlough. They claim the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) plotted with three officials and another inmate to have him assassinated while serving his time.
According to People magazine, Mikeal Glenn Stine, an inmate serving over 20 years for more than 100 civil suits, alleges that he was asked by three senior officials to kill R. Kelly. Stine claims to be an affiliate of the Aryan Brotherhood, which granted him authority to “order stabbings, beatings, and executions.”
Stine asserts that a BOP official approached him with regards to executing the 58-year-old singer and promised him freedom if successful. However, after surveilling R. Kelly for weeks, Stine warned him about the plot instead of carrying it out.
R. Kelly’s lawyer, Beau Brindley, argues that keeping his client in prison poses a significant threat to his life, constituting cruel punishment. Stine has offered to perform a polygraph test to verify his testimony and identify inmates whose murders and beatings he was involved in.
