(The Post News)- Two South African National Defense Force (SANDF) members were fatally stabbed by a fellow soldier during an altercation in the early hours of Saturday, 21 June, at the Macadamia Military Base near Komatipoort, Mpumalanga.
The SANDF has described the event as an “unfortunate incident.” The soldiers were reportedly deployed at the base as part of border protection duties under Operation Corona.
The SANDF, together with the South African Police Service, has launched a full investigation into the incident. In an official statement, the defense force said, “The circumstances surrounding the incident remain the subject of ongoing inquiry, and further details will be communicated once officially verified.”
The SANDF extended heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and fellow soldiers of the two members who lost their lives. “This is a deeply painful moment for the organization and the military community at large,” the statement read.
Authorities have appealed to both the public and media to avoid speculation while investigations continue, and to respect the dignity and privacy of the families affected during this difficult period.
