(The Post News)- A 49-year-old man from Hluhluwe, North of KwaZulu-Natal, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Eshowe Regional Court today for raping his 4 year-old child. The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit within the South African Police Service (SAPS) has been commended for its diligent efforts in securing the conviction.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Natasha Ramkisson, the abuse occurred while the children and their mother lived with the accused. The mother reported the case but tragically passed away before the trial. The prosecutor successfully applied for her statements to be admitted into evidence under Section 3 of the Hearsay Evidence Act.
The offences took place between 2015 and 2019, when the children were aged between 2 and 8 years old. The NPA’s efforts ensured that justice was served, and the accused was held accountable for his heinous crimes.
The NPA’s commitment to prosecuting cases of child abuse and sexual offences is evident in this case. The life sentence handed down to the accused serves as a testament to the justice system’s dedication to protecting vulnerable members of society.
