The Pietermaritzburg High Court has postponed the case of Sbu Ncengwa, who pleaded guilty to killing ANC councillor Sindiswa Magaqa in 2017.
The Pietermaritzburg High Court has postpones Sbu Ncengwa case, who pleaded guilty earlier this month to killing former ANC Youth League member Sindiswa Magaqa from uMzimkhulu, KwaZulu-Natal. Magaqa, an ANC councillor who spoke out against corruption, was shot on his way home in August 2017 and died in the hospital two weeks later.
ANC leader Jeff Hadebe, part of the ANC’s KwaZulu-Natal task team, expressed satisfaction with the expected sentencing of Ncengwa in July. However, Hadebe declined to comment on the late Mayor of Mzimkhulu, Mluleki Ndobe, who was allegedly involved in planning Magaqa’s killing. Ndobe later took his own life and had paid R600,000 to hitman Thabiso Zulu.
Thabiso Zulu stated that Sindiswa’s mother has struggled to live a normal life since her son’s passing. He claimed that the state refused to protect him and expressed distrust towards some people in the ANC organization, alleging that they tried to shoot him. The NPA did not charge those prosecuting him unfairly, and the car that transported the hitmen belonged to the state.
State advocate Mr. Gcwensa says that Sindiswa’s 71-year-old mother, who is diabetic, was not provided with counseling after her son’s death.
