(The Post News)- Search and rescue operations are ongoing as authorities look for more than 20 missing girls from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp located along the Guadalupe River in south-central Texas.
The camp was struck by a sudden flash flood on July 4. Desperate parents have taken to social media to post photos of their missing girls in hopes of aiding the rescue efforts.
So far, officials report that 237 individuals have been rescued, including 167 by helicopter.
Speaking to the media, U.S. President Donald Trump described the disaster as “terrible” and “shocking.” He stated that his administration is working with Texas Governor Greg Abbott to support affected communities.
Thirteen-year-old Elinor Lester, one of the rescued campers, said she and her cabinmates were saved by helicopter. “It was very scary,” Lester shared with the press, adding that the camp was “completely destroyed.”
Authorities have confirmed that 24 people have died in the flooding—revising the initial death toll of 25.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio has issued a flash flood warning for Burnet County, as conditions remain hazardous in the region.
