(The Post News)– The Proteas wrapped up a dominant Test series with an innings and 236-run win over Zimbabwe on day three of the second Test at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, completing a 2-0 whitewash on Tuesday.
The Proteas’ emphatic performance was headlined by stand-in captain Wiaan Mulder, who smashed an unbeaten 367, the highest individual score by a South African in Test cricket and fifth overall in history. His knock powered the visitors to a towering 626/5 declared before bowling out Zimbabwe for 170 and 220.
Leading the side in the absence of Temba Bavuma and Keshav Maharaj, Mulder said captaining his country was a dream fulfilled. He praised the team’s collective effort across both matches, noting how different players stood up when it mattered most.
Zimbabwe had shown some fight to reach 143/3 by lunch on day three, but their hopes quickly unravelled in the afternoon session. The Proteas tore through the final seven wickets for just 77 runs. Corbin Bosch (4/38), Senuran Muthusamy (3/77), and Codi Yusuf (2/38) did the damage.
Nick Welch (55) and Craig Ervine (49) were the only Zimbabwean batters to show resistance. But once Welch edged to slip and Ervine fell just shy of a fifty, the rest folded quickly.
Earlier, David Bedingham (82) and Lhuan-dre Pretorius (78) had supported Mulder’s record-breaking effort. Prenelan Subrayen starred with 4/42 in Zimbabwe’s first innings, while Sean Williams’ explosive 83 was the lone bright spot for the hosts.
