President Donald Trump has moved to unseal grand jury documents in the case of deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in response to mounting pressure from supporters and the public demanding transparency.
Trump’s past connection to Epstein has come under renewed scrutiny, first brought up by Elon Musk on X during their public feud in early June. The controversy intensified after The Wall Street Journal claimed that Trump sent Epstein a 50th birthday card featuring the outline of a nude woman, along with the message: “Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.”
Since the letter’s emergence, both the public and many of Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) supporters have demanded the release of documents revealing the truth about Trump’s relationship with Epstein.
Trump denied sending or drafting Epstein the birthday card, calling it “false, malicious and defamatory”. He has since taken to his Truth Social platform to say that the amount of publicity given to the Epstein saga is ‘ridiculous’.
Shortly after, Bondi responded on X, saying that his team is willing and able to approach the court “tomorrow” to request the release of the grand jury transcripts. It remains unclear if or when the court will authorize the release of the documents.
Meanwhile, Trump has since distanced himself from his own base, saying he no longer wants the support of MAGA followers who turned on him over the Epstein controversy. He labelled those who believed the allegations a group of “weaklings” who had fallen for what he called lies spread by the Democrats.
