(The Post News)- The Springbok Women’s rugby team are back in action this Saturday, taking on the Black Ferns XV at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, the first of two friendlies between the sides. Leading the charge will be Babalwa Latsha, who returns as captain in a squad that looks quite different from the one that faced Canada two weeks ago.
Latsha is one of just four forwards keeping her starting spot. She’ll join forces once again with Sanelisiwe Charlie and Micke Gunter in the front row, while the lock combination gets a complete refresh. Back from injury, Vainah Ubisi makes a welcome return, alongside Anathi Qolo, who last captained the side during the Women’s Africa Cup in Madagascar.
Aseza Hele remains at No. 8, flanked by Lerato Makua and Faith Tshauke, both making starts after recent bench or injury appearances. The backline also sees reshuffling, only Jakkie Cilliers retains her previous position.
Coach Swys de Bruin explained that many of the changes were planned and allowed for rest and recovery ahead of next weekend’s rematch. He also noted this is a key chance to see how the team handles high-quality opposition like the Black Ferns XV.
