(The Post News)– Mduduzi Mnisi will sleep a free man tonight after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) officially withdrew charges against him. Mnisi had been accused of murdering 14-year-old Likhona Fose, whose mutilated body was discovered dumped in a veld in Durban Deep, Roodepoort.
During his bail hearing, Mnisi consistently maintained his innocence, claiming he had an alibi and evidence to prove he was not involved. In a brief appearance at the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, Magistrate Delize Smith stated that new evidence had emerged, prompting the NPA to drop the charges. Magistrate Smith said that after receiving the information from the bail application, the state decided to drop the charges against the accused.
Mnisi was arrested in June after a community tip-off linked him to Fose, as he was allegedly the last person seen with the teenager. He was later released on R5,000 bail. Speaking to the media outside court, Mnisi said he had been framed and
expressed relief over the case being dropped.
He also suggested that his past conviction and reputation in the community contributed to him being suspected. Moreover, Mnisi believes that people always judge one by their past mistakes, even though they have changed.
