(The Post News)- Deputy President Paul Mashatile visited Mangaung on August 5, 2025, as part of the Clean Cities and Towns Campaign, a nationwide effort aimed at fostering cleaner, greener, and more inclusive communities. The campaign, launched by Mashatile in June 2025, seeks to revitalize urban areas, enhance service delivery, and combat environmental degradation.
Mashatile was joined by Free State Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae and Mangaung Metro Executive Mayor Gregory Nthatisi as they cleaned up an illegal dumping site in Pieter Swarts. During the event, Mashatile emphasized the importance of community participation, stating that “Government must clean with the people, not for the people.”
The Deputy President also highlighted the campaign’s focus on instilling a culture of cleanliness in all communities. As part of this effort, he mentioned plans to visit schools to encourage young children to adopt the culture of cleanliness that had been started. Mashatile expressed gratitude to the Free State Premier and the Executive Mayor for accompanying him during the campaign.
According to Mashatile, the day’s events were successful, starting in ward 45, with Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) workers continuing the clean-up efforts. The campaign aligns with the District Development Model and the Free State’s “Bontle ke Botho” initiative, promoting community pride and shared responsibility for public spaces.
