(The Post News)– Community members and e-hailing drivers gathered outside Maponya Mall this morning, refusing to allow business operations to continue today.
The blockade comes after unknown assailants killed an e-hailing driver and injured two others on Wednesday night outside Maponya Mall. It is alleged taxi operators are behind the incident, and they also torched two cars in the process.
Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, one community member said their main concern is ensuring the safety of people. He also expressed dissatisfaction with how mall management has treated them.
The residents have accused mall management of using the police to deviate from engaging with the community members. They claim that the management is “arrogant” and not taking the matter seriously.
The community has vowed to continue gathering outside the mall until management engages with them. They are demanding accountability and justice for the slain e-hailing driver and the injured victims. They are saying this is a second such incident to occur.
The residents said they will not allow business to continue as usual if the management continues to ignore these incidents. They emphasized that their goal is not to shut down the mall but to ensure safety is guaranteed.
