(The Post News)– Sunday’s Women’s Rugby World Cup opener between South Africa and Brazil at Franklin’s Garden in Northampton marks the very first Test between the two sides. But for Springbok Women utility back Nadine Roos, it won’t be a completely new challenge.
Roos, along with Ayanda Malinga, Eloise Webb, Zintle Mpupha, and Sizophila Solontsi, has already come up against Brazil four times in the 2024 HSBC SVNS series. Brazil took three of those matches, though Roos made her mark with some eye-catching tries.
Roos is determined to help flip the script as she switches from sevens to fifteens. She admitted the margins in sevens were tight, often just a try deciding the result. Roos believes the Boks can set things right this time around.
Roos knows what the South Americans bring: lightning-quick runners and sharp playmakers who thrive in space. She stressed that the Bok Women will need to cut off that room early, staying physical and closing gaps to deny them momentum.
Having settled into a scrumhalf role, Roos is eager to spark attacking moments again. She insists any success will come through a united team effort. The squad will sharpen up further by participating in a joint training session against Japan this week, before they confirm matchday 23 on Friday.
