(The Post News)- A 35-year-old man is expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court today, 25 August 2025 in connection to multiple murders linked to drug-related violence in Heidedal earlier this year.
According to Free State police spokesperson, Captain Loraine Earle, the South African Police Service (SAPS), The accused was arrested last week Thursday (21 August) during a police tracing operation after intelligence allegedly linked him to two separate fatal shootings.
Earle said, “The suspect was apprehended following the receipt of crucial intelligence, which was immediately followed up by investigators.“
The initial shooting happened in June this year, when an unidentified gunmen opened fire at a well known drug den in Heidedal, leaving three people dead. A month later, in July, the owner of the same establishment was gunned down by an unknown male who fled the scene immediately after the attack.
“Following the suspect’s arrest, an identification parade was conducted, during which the 35-year-old man was identified as the one responsible for the July murder,” added the spokeperson.

The man now facing murder charges was arrested in by the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit, with support from the Tactical Response Team. Police believe his arrest marks a turning point in the investigation, but they have not ruled out further arrests as inquiries continue.
Earle said, “Their swift action and professionalism are commendable and demonstrate the SAPS’s ongoing commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining public safety.”
