(The Post News)– Liverpool beat Newcastle United on Monday, with Rio Ngumoha scoring the winning goal in the 100th minute of the match.
The 16-year-old registered himself in Liverpool’s score sheets at St. James’ Park Stadium, scoring a goal that sealed three points for Liverpool in the English Premier League (EPL). His goal has put the Liverpool at the third position of the log.
Liverpool led the match from the 35th minute of the first half, with Ryan Gravenberch scoring an opening special goal outside of the 18 area. Newcastle’s goalkeeper, Nick Pope, was left in shock as the ball was beyond reach at the bottom post. Hugo Ekitike also took his shot at 45’ after a blocked ball tried by Gakpo. Ekitike fired one in the box past the defense and left the goalkeeper no chance. Liverpool was at an advantage against Newcastle’s ten-man squad.
However, Newcastle recovered and began to convert their chances; a set piece resulted in a header, which opened the scoring. Bruno Guimaraes scored a beautiful goal, changing the 2-nil to 2-1. Another chance came from a volley, which Newcastle men managed to press hard to make the score level. William Osula took advantage of Liverpool’s defense to capitalize from the volley with brilliance and a sharp shot.
Liverpool coach Arne Slot, scratching his bald head, introduced Nguhoma at 90+6, sacrificing Gakpo, who dished two assists. Then, at 90 plus 10 of the added time, Liverpool was pressing with the new forwards. Mohammed Salah penetrated the defense and dished for the perfectly placed Ngumoha, who found the net, securing a win for Liverpool. Meanwhile, Slot did not waste time—he made another change with a technique of time wasting when he subbed Salah with Wataru Endo at 90+12 minutes. The end of the game gave Liverpool an additional three points, totaling its points to six.
Newcastle, on the other hand, remains winless since the start of the 2025/26 EPL season. The club drew 0-0 against Aston Villa during its first match of the season.
