(The Post News)- Kamil Majchrzak, a Polish tennis player has responded with kindness after a video from the US Open went viral, sparking outrage online.
The footage appeared to show a man snatching a hat away from a young boy in the crowd just moments after it had seemingly been handed to him as a souvenir.
The incident drew widespread attention and criticism, prompting Majchrzak, who was involved in the original gesture, to take action. In an uplifting follow-up shared on his official Instagram account, Majchrzak posted two heart warming clips showing him meeting with the young fans, shaking their hands, and presenting them with thoughtful gifts.
Among the items was a cap identical to the one taken in the viral video, symbolizing not only a second chance but also the athlete’s effort to make things right and bring some joy to the young spectators.
A viral video, reportedly filmed during Kamil Majchrzak’s match on Thursday, captured the tennis player engaging with fans and handing his cap to a young boy in the crowd. Before the child could take it, a man standing beside him quickly snatched the cap away. The footage then shows the boy looking visibly upset and pleading for its return.
The clip quickly spread across social media, where many users condemned the man’s actions. Several media outlets have since identified him as Piotr Szczerek, the CEO of a Polish paving company. BBC News has contacted Mr Szczerek through his company for comment.
In a follow-up on Instagram, Majchrzak shared a photo of himself smiling next to the boy now happily wearing the cap meant for him in the first place.
“Sending warm wishes for a great day from me and Brock!” the tennis player wrote in the caption.
