(The Post News) – After meeting with President Xi Jinping on 4 September, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged to support, defend, and safeguard China’s interests. The promise comes just days after he seemed to have created a new alliance with President Vladimir Putin, voicing “full support” for Russia’s military in an unprecedented show of unity.
On Friday, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) described the meeting as a reaffirmation of the decades-long partnership. According to the state-run outlet, Kim said, “No matter how the international situation changes, the feeling of friendship cannot change.”
The leaders were photographed meeting a day after Kim, Putin, and 24 other non-Western leaders attended China’s military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. According to KCNA, Kim proclaimed that it was his “fraternal duty” to support Russia.
The alliance between the two neighbors, described as “good friends and good comrades,” remains strong, with Kim emphasizing that the nations share a similar destiny. The North Korean leader also previously highlighted that he has a special bond with Russia and “long-term” partnership plans at the Beijing military parade.
The U.S. President, long at odds with China, was not amused with this collaboration, taking to the Truth Social platform to passively aggressively post that “Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un.” He alleged that the trio are forming this alliance to conspire against the United States of America. Putin dismissed the claim, saying no criticism of the Trump administration was made during his Beijing trip, adding, “The President of the United States is not without a sense of humor.”
