(The Post News) -U.S. President Donald Trump shares that he is hosting the 2026 G20 summit at his Trump National Doral Miami golf club, after excusing himself from the 2025 summit hosted by South Africa due to ongoing tensions.
Speaking at an Oval Office event on Friday, Trump said he believes Doral “will be the best location” for the global gathering of 20 world leaders. The European Union and the African Union alternate in hosting the G20 economic forum, whose purpose is to discuss and coordinate global economic policy, trade, and development issues among the world’s major economies.
Doral is one of the billionaire’s many luxury properties, and reports indicate that the world leaders’ stay could funnel millions of dollars directly into Trump’s pockets. Both Democrats and Republicans have raised ethical concerns over a potential conflict of interest, claiming Trump is using his office to benefit financially from a taxpayer-funded event.
The White House has rejected these claims, insisting that the president’s assets are managed by a third party.
Vance to Represent Trump at 2025 G20 Summit
Yesterday, Trump also announced that U.S. Vice President JD Vance would be taking his place at the 2025 G20 summit in South Africa. The denied invitation comes amid a year of tensions stemming from tariff hikes and Trump’s controversial claims of a “white genocide” in South Africa.
Earlier this year, Trump announced that the U.S. would impose 30% tariffs on South African exports. The president and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa also engaged in a tense back-and-forth at the Oval Office regarding Trump’s claims alleging a genocide of white farmers in South Africa.
When asked by reporters whether he would attend the summit, Trump refused to deny the tension, responding bluntly, “I won’t be going this year. It’s in South Africa. I won’t be going.”
