(The Post News) – The family of Nkateko Mbhoma, a Limpopo ANC Youth League (ANCYL) member who was shot and killed on Tuesday, is demanding justice.
Mbhoma, 32, was traveling with six other ANCYL members to the National General Council (NGC) in Kimberley when their vehicle came under fire near Klerksdorp in the North West province.
The family from Makuleke village is reeling from the sudden loss of their son. A family spokesperson conveyed their immense sorrow, stating, “This is very tragic to us. We feel very bad.” They went on to emphasize that Mbhoma was an exceptional individual, noting he could not be compared to others in Makuleke as he was “the only person of his calibre.”
Police have confirmed the arrest of two men who were in a vehicle that crashed shortly after the shooting. The suspects, who identified themselves as private security contractors for Transnet, claimed they were chasing a vehicle involved in cable theft when their accident occurred. A rifle and a pistol were confiscated from their possession.
North West police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, provided specific details on the arrests, saying, “Police came across one of the vehicles that fitted the description of one of the vehicles allegedly involved in the shooting. The third vehicle was involved in an accident, seemingly after the driver had lost control. The police interviewed the duo…and they indicated that they were members of a private security company contracted by Transnet…The two were immediately placed under arrest, and the police confiscated the firearms for further investigation.”
