(The Post News) – Speaking on Fox & Friends on Friday, President Donald Trump announced that a strong suspect in Charlie Kirk’s killing has been handed over to authorities by his father and church minister. The swift arrest comes two days after Trump confirmed Kirk’s death on his social platform.
The president said that authorities are confident that they have the right person. When asked whether the shooter acted alone, he admitted he had not been briefed, adding he had only “five minutes” before going on air. The questions over the size of the operation come after CCTV footage was released showing the gunman scaling the side of a building after shooting Charlie and running into a wooded area, where the gun was eventually found. The footage confirmed the gunman struck from roughly 200 yards away, hitting Kirk’s carotid artery.
Gun experts have come out to say that the shot is not one of an amateur or an avid shooter but someone with “extensive professional sniper training.” This, alongside the fact that the gunmen only shot Charlie and left, led to theories that the shooting might have been an ordered assassination, though this has yet to be confirmed by the authorities.
A day after the 31-year-old was killed, the FBI also released grainy images of the suspect, who was dressed in “a black baseball cap, sunglasses, and a distinctive t-shirt with the American flag and eagle, as well as a backpack.” In a press conference, they announced a $100K reward for his capture. It is unclear if the gunman’s father and church minister will be the recipients of this reward.
Charlie Kirk was a conservative activist and a prominent Trump ally who was beloved by the conservative Republican community for his political stances. He was fatally shot at Utah Valley State University while speaking on gun violence. It is reported that his wife and two young children were also at this event.
Kirk Murder Suspect Identified
Meanwhile, authorities have identified the suspect as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah resident. NBC News reported that, according to public records, Robinson’s political party is not specified, and his last day of voter registration was July 13, 2021. According to a BBC News investigation, Robinson went to Pineview Middle School before relocating to Logan in 2022 to attend Utah State University, which is roughly two hours’ drive from Utah Valley University.
