(The Post News) – As Cape Flats violence escalates, two people have been killed while three others were injured during a mass shooting at the Europe Informal Settlement in Gugulethu on Sunday, 14 September.
Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg said officers discovered the victims after responding to a complaint. “Police members responded to a complaint of a shooting, and upon arrival on the scene, they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies. “The adult male and female were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment,” Twigg said.
Twigg added that the motive for the attack remains unclear. “The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation. The suspect(s) fled the scene and is/are yet to be arrested. Anyone with any information about this shooting incident can contact Crime Stop or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously,” he said.
Reports indicate that the Gugulethu shooting comes amid a wave of violence across Cape Town. In Kraaifontein, three people were shot dead and another was fatally stabbed in separate incidents this weekend. This adds to a total of 14 people killed in the area over the past week. Meanwhile, police have launched investigations into all the incidents, but no arrests have yet been made.
